Common errors and fixes
- Personal Google Voice won't accept an MP3
Personal accounts only support in-app recording. Either record via the app while playing the MP3 from a speaker, or upgrade to Google Workspace Voice for direct upload.
- Greeting sounds quiet on Workspace Voice
Re-export from our generator with normalization enabled. Google Voice does not boost volume server-side.
- "File rejected" on Workspace upload
Confirm the file is mono MP3 at 8 or 16 kHz. Stereo files are rejected silently. Our generator defaults to a Google-Voice-compatible format.

Frequently asked questions
Can I upload an MP3 to Google Voice?
Personal Google Voice accounts only support recording the greeting through the app. Google Workspace Voice supports uploading custom audio for auto attendants and ring groups.
How do I get my MP3 onto a personal Google Voice account?
Play the MP3 from a speaker into a quiet phone microphone while recording your greeting. Not ideal — but it works. For Workspace Voice, upload directly via the admin console.
Does Google Voice support different greetings for after-hours?
Workspace Voice does — via business-hours rules. Personal Google Voice does not.
