A closure greeting gives the caller the date you reopen, not just the fact that you are away. Name the day and the time, and say what happens to messages and orders in the meantime.
Hello, you've reached Ashbourne Print Works. We've closed for Christmas and we reopen at half past eight on Tuesday the fourth of January. Orders sent by email over the break will go into the first batch when we're back. Thank you for calling, and all the best for the new year.

When Christmas Day or Boxing Day falls on a weekend, the bank holiday moves to the next weekday. Look at the official list before you write “back on the 27th”.
“Tuesday the fourth of January” cannot be misheard. A date on its own makes the caller count.
Callers planning around your closure need the greeting before you go. Switch it on two working days in advance, if your system supports a schedule.
The day you reopen, put the normal greeting back before the first call. Set a reminder.
