Verizon lists three ways to change your greeting: in the Voicemail app, by dialing *86 from your phone, or from any phone by calling your own number. Each one ends with you recording the greeting.
If you subscribe to Visual Voicemail, Verizon says you can change your greeting from the Voicemail app on your phone.
Dial *86 from your Verizon phone and follow the prompts. Verizon notes that all its mobile phones still have basic voicemail you can reach this way.
Call your mobile number, press # as soon as you hear your greeting, enter your password, press 4 for Personal Options and follow the prompts.
Verizon warns that your standard greetings are saved when you switch from Visual Voicemail back to basic voicemail, but custom greetings may be lost. Keep your greeting file, so you can record it again.
Verizon’s instructions describe recording, not uploading a file. The trick for a generated greeting: let your Verizon phone record while the file plays from a nearby speaker. A quiet room and a short distance give the best result. Expect slightly less clarity than an uploaded file.
You record the greeting into your Verizon mailbox yourself; we have no access to carrier voicemail. Phone systems with file upload are listed in our phone system guides.

Hi, this is [Name] with [Company]. I’m showing a property and can’t take your call. Leave the address you’re calling about and your number, and I’ll call you right back.
Verizon’s Visual Voicemail FAQs do not describe a file upload. Record the greeting, or play your file into the recording.
