Dial 321

Change your Optus voicemail greeting

On an Optus mobile you record the greeting by calling 321. Optus also offers time-of-day greetings, which suit businesses well: one greeting for business hours, another for evenings. On Optus Loop you can upload a file.

Optus mobile: first set-up

  1. Turn voicemail on

In the My Optus app: Services, your mobile service, Settings, Voicemail and call diversions. Postpaid customers can also dial 1509. Optus says changes take 15 minutes to 4 hours.

  2. Dial 321

Optus texts you a random default PIN once voicemail is active. Dial 321 from your mobile.

  3. Record and secure

Record your greeting, change the PIN and complete the tutorial. The PIN can be up to 9 digits and must not be sequential or repeated.

Change the greeting later

  1. Dial 321

    From your Optus mobile.

  2. Press 3

From the main menu, press 3 for the Greetings menu.

  3. Follow the prompts

Record the new greeting and save it.

Time-of-day and group greetings

Optus describes both options for home phone and mobile voicemail.

Up to four greetings on a schedule

In the Greetings menu, press 5 for the greeting schedule. Record up to four greetings, numbered 1 to 4, then set days (1 for Monday to 7 for Sunday) and time periods, and enable the schedule with 5. Where no greeting is set, the main greeting plays.

Greetings for groups of callers

In the Greetings menu, press 7. You can record two group greetings and add the numbers that should hear them, for example your key accounts.

Optus Loop: upload a file

For Optus Loop with RingCentral, Optus describes three ways to set a custom voicemail greeting in the desktop and web app: record with the computer microphone, have the system call your phone, or import a WAV or MP3 file. The path is Settings, Phone, Voicemail greeting, Custom, Importing.

An older Optus Loop guide from 2021 asks for a WAV file in CCITT µ-law, 8 kHz, 8 bit, mono, with separate greetings for busy and no answer. Our free audio converter creates that format (the converter page is in English).

Mobile: playing the file into the call

Optus mobile voicemail does not describe a file upload. Play the MP3 from your computer into the call when 321 asks for the greeting. Keep the room quiet; some sound quality is lost on the way.
