Peak weekend

Black Friday on-hold messages

When Black Friday weekend fills your phone queue, the on-hold message does part of the work: it keeps callers on the line and answers the common questions before an associate picks up.

What works on hold during a peak

01

Answer the top question first

Most peak calls ask about orders and delivery. Say where tracking is in the first message.

02

Give the offer’s end date

Callers want to know if they still get the price. Name the last day and time, with the time zone for online offers.

03

Rotate short messages

Three messages of 20 seconds with music in between feel shorter than one long announcement.

04

Switch back on Tuesday

An expired offer on hold creates angry callers. Set a reminder to restore your regular message.

A marketing day, not a holiday

Black Friday is not a federal holiday; it is the Friday after Thanksgiving and a retail tradition. Whether you open early, close, or run online only is your decision, so say it clearly. For the Thanksgiving closure itself, see our Thanksgiving greetings.

Questions

How long should a Black Friday on-hold message be?

20 to 30 seconds per message. Callers hear the first one most often, so put tracking and opening hours there.

Should I mention prices on hold?

Name the offer and its end date, not individual prices. Prices change; an outdated price on hold leads to disputes.

Can I prepare it before Thanksgiving?

Yes, and you should. Create and download it a week before, then switch it on Thursday night.
